Cavaliers duel with KCKCC ends in 3-3 draw

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's soccer team let a two-goal lead slip away, settling for a 3-3 draw against cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas Community College Saturday night.

The Cavaliers struck first in the ninth minute when Marco Hernandez sent a pass across the box to Conor Meyers, who buried his shot into the lower left corner.

The Blue Devils leveled the match in the 29th minute, but JCCC regained the lead just one minute later as David Hernandez connected with Khoi Woods to make it 2-1.

In the 43rd minute, a KCKCC penalty in the box gave the Cavaliers a penalty kick. Sergio Hernandez-Marquez converted the chance to extend the lead to 3-1. However, just over a minute later, JCCC was whistled for a foul inside the box, and the Blue Devils capitalized from the spot to cut the deficit to 3-2 at halftime.

Kansas City Kansas struck again in the 75th minute, blasting a shot past JCCC goalkeeper Daniel Wozniak into the upper left corner to even the score at 3-3. Wozniak finished with seven saves in the match.

The Cavaliers controlled much of the second half, firing 16 shots, but were unable to find the game-winner and were forced to settle for their second straight draw.

Johnson County (6-3-3) will return to action Wednesday, October 1, on the road against St. Charles Community College in Cottleville, Mo.
