Herrington, Anguiano net first career goals to lift No. 14 JCCC past St. Charles, 2-1

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Highlighted by first career goals by Grady Herrington and Marvin Anguiano, the No. 14-ranked Johnson County Community College men's soccer team pulled out a thrilling 2-1 victory at St. Charles Community College in a non-conference contest that saw all three goals scored in final 23 minutes of the first half.

With the victory, the Cavaliers returned to the win column after back-to-back ties, improving to 7-3-3. The Cougars drop to 6-7-1.

St. Charles opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on a strike by Edward Saia. Herrington answered in the 38th minute, netting his first career goal off  a feed from Griffin Heinen to tie the match at 1-1. Just three minutes later, Anguiano delivered the game-winner, finishing a perfect pass from sophomore forward Tanner Poirier, who earned the assist.

The Cavaliers defense tightened in the second half, limiting St. Charles to just four total shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Cooper Burandt improved 3-1-1 between the posts, recording nine saves on 10 attempts.

Johnson County returns to conference play  Saturday, traveling to Iola, Kan, to take on Allen Community College.
