OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 9-ranked Johnson County Community College men's soccer team continued its midseason surge Wednesday night, earning a convincing 3-0 victory over No. 18-ranked Allen Community College at the JCCC Soccer Complex.
The win marked the Cavaliers' fifth straight overall and fourth consecutive shutout, improving their record to 5-2-0. It was also their second victory over a nationally ranked opponent this season, evening their record to 2-2-0 against top-20 competition. Allen, which entered the match unbeaten, dropped to 3-1-2.
Johnson County grabbed the early momentum in the 19th minute when sophomore forward Ben Points rifled a restart from just outside the box into the top-right corner for a 1-0 lead.
The Cavaliers controlled possession after halftime, outshooting the Red Devils 13-8, with five attempts on frame. Freshman forward Khoi Woods doubled the lead in the 47th minute off a pass from classmate Sergio Hernandez Marquez, and freshman midfielder Thomas House sealed the win in the 86th minute, finishing a feed from freshman forward Conor Myers.
Freshman goalkeeper Cooper Burandt was steady in net, recording his second win and second shutout by turning away all seven shots he faced.
Johnson County now turns its attention to a Saturday afternoon road match at St. Louis Community College before returning home Monday for a 7:30 p.m. showdown with No. 5-ranked Neosho County Community College, last season's national runner-up.
