JCCC men’s soccer place seven on all-conference team

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced the all-conference performers for the 2022 season, and seven members of the Johnson County men's soccer team were among those selected. In addition, head coach Jeff Cole was named the East Division Coach of the Year and sophomore goalkeeper Cole Stewart was selected the Defensive Player of the Year 

Joining Stewart on the first team was sophomore forward Alan Lopez. Second-team honors went to freshman forward Jacksyn McIntyre, freshman midfielder Homer Skidmore, freshman midfielder Andy Sloss, sophomore defender Dalton Shipley and sophomore goalkeeper Brandon McGaugh.  

Picked to finish last in the KJCCC East Division race at the start of the season, Jeff Cole's Johnson County men's soccer team exceeded everyone's expectations by earning a share of the conference title while moving up the national rankings to a No. 13 spot in the final NJCAA Poll.  In his third season as the Cavaliers head coach, Cole guided JCCC to a 14-7-0 mark and one victory away from qualifying for the NJCAA D-I National Tournament. 

Stewart made team and conference history this year by becoming the first goalkeeper to be selected as the NJCAA National D-I Goalkeeper of the Week on three occasions.  Stewart finished the season 4-5-0 with one shutout, a goals against average of 1.25, 61 saves and a .836 save percentage. He ranks third in KJCCC D-I in GAA, third in saves and second in save percentage. Stewart was an all-conference selection last season as well. 

Lopez led JCCC, ranked second in the conference and 16th in the NJCAA with 33 points this season. He also ranked fourth in the conference and tied for 21st in the NJCAA with 13 goals scored. Lopez produced three multiple goal matches and scored four game winning goals, third most in the conference and 11th in the NJCAA. Twice during the season, he was selected the KJCCC Men's Division I Offensive Player of the Week, earning the award in weeks one and 11. For his career he finished with 63 points, 23 goals, 17 assists and six game winning goals.  His 63 points rank tied for fourth all-time a JCCC. He also ranks sixth in career goals, fourth in career assists and tied the career mark for game winning goals with six.  Lopez was also as first-team all-conference selection last year and was also twice named player of the week. 

McIntrye led the team in assists with eight and ranked second in goals with eight and points with 24. In the conference he ranked tied for second in assists, tied for 10th in goals and tied for seventh in points. He also led the team with three game winning assists, and scored the game winning goal to give the Cavaliers a 1-nil win at rival Kansas City Kansas on September 14. 

Skidmore finished fourth on the team in points with 10 and goals scored with four. In his collegiate debut, he scored the game winning goal in a 4-3 win at Indian Hills.  He also tallied a goal in a 3-1 win over Crowder,  a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over Central and a goal in a 4-0 win over Southeast.

Sloss and Shipley were key members of Johnson Count's defensive poll that allowed just 23 goals, produced a goals against average of 1.06 with seven shutouts. Both players also helped out on the offensive end. Sloss had one assist and it lead to a game winning goal, and Shipley produced two assists of which one also led to a game winner.

McGaugh had a fantastic final campaign to his career at JCCC. He finished 10-2-0 with five shutouts, a goals against average of 0.90 and a save percentage of 863, which all marks led the conference. During the season McGaugh was named the KJCCC D-I Goalkeeper of the Week three Times, including back-to-back weeks in weeks four and five. Nationally he ranked tied for eighth in wins, tied for seventh in shutouts, ninth in GAA, and sixth in save percentage. McGaugh was a first-team all-conference and second-team All-Region 6/Plains District selection in the spring of 2021.
