JCCC’s Lopez selected United Soccer Coaches Men’s Junior College Scholar Player of the Year

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – United Soccer Coaches announced the association's 2022 Men's and Women's Scholar All-America Teams, including Scholar Players of the Year, for all levels of college soccer on Thursday.   

Johnson County Community College sophomore forward Alan Lopez was one of 11 student-athletes named to the Men's Junior College first-team and he was named the Scholar Player of the Year, the first in JCCC men's soccer history. 

Student-athletes on this year's Scholar All-America Teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention. 

"I am really happy for Alan and our men's soccer family at Johnson County," said Cavaliers' head coach Jeff Cole. "Alan exemplifies everything we want from our student-athletes…accountability, character, discipline, and respect. Alan is a true leader on the field and in the classroom." 

Earlier this month, Lopez was named first-team All-American by both the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and United Soccer Coaches. 

This season, Lopez led JCCC, ranked second in the conference and 16th in the NJCAA with 33 points. He also ranked fourth in the conference and tied for 21st in the NJCAA with 13 goals scored. Lopez produced three multiple goal matches and scored four game winning goals, third most in the conference and 11th in the NJCAA. Twice during the season, he was selected the KJCCC Men's Division I Offensive Player of the Week, earning the award in weeks one and 11. 

For his career Lopez finished with 63 points, 23 goals, 17 assists and six game winning goals.  His 63 points rank tied for fourth all-time a JCCC. He also ranks sixth in career goals, fourth in career assists and tied the career mark for game winning goals with six.  

Lopez was also as first-team all-conference selection last year and was also twice named player of the week.
