OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 9-ranked Johnson County Community College men's soccer team returns home from Mississippi after a pair of disappointing shutout losses to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Pearl River Community College. The Cavaliers will look to regroup in their home opener against Southeastern Community College on Sunday, August 31, at the JCCC Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
Johnson County opened its 2025 campaign with a 1-0 setback at Mississippi Gulf Coast on Friday, August 22. It marked just the fifth time in program history the Cavaliers have been shut out in a season opener. Despite the result, JCCC created more scoring opportunities than the Bulldogs, outshooting them 10-3 on goal. Sophomore Sergio Hernandez Marquez led the attack with three shots on target, while Ben Points and David Hernandez each added two.
Two days later, the Cavaliers faced Pearl River and suffered a 3-0 defeat. It is only the second time in team history JCCC has opened a season with back-to-back shutout losses, the other coming in 2016 when they fell 2-0 to Tyler and 6-0 to Dallas-Richland. Against Pearl River, JCCC again held the advantage in total shots, 13-9, but managed to put just three on frame.
