OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's soccer team recorded three shutouts last week which included a 1-0 upset over No. 3-ranked Iowa Lakes Community College, the Cavaliers have swept their second straight Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Men's Soccer Player of the Week awards with freshman forward Sergio Hernandez Marquez and freshman goalkeeper Daniel Wozniak earning week three accolades. Wozniak was also selected as last week's top goalkeeper.
Hernandez Marquez was a key offensive weapon for the Cavaliers last week. The freshman forward netted two goals, including the game winner, in 3-0 road victory over Metropolitan last Wednesday night. He followed with another two-goal effort, highlighted by a second consecutive game winner, in a 5-0 home victory over North Iowa Area. For the season, Hernandez Marquez leads the conference with two game winning goals, is tied in the for most goals (4) and is second in points (8).
Wozniak improved to 3-1-0 and lowered his goals against average to 0.75 after posting a pair of shutout victories over the weekend. On Friday night, Wozniak saved three shots as the Cavaliers cruised to a 5-0 victory over North Iowa Area. On Sunday he thwarted all 10 shots he faced, eight in the second half, to secure a 1-0 victory over No.3-ranked Iowa Lakes. Wozniak currently leads KJCCC D-II goalkeeper in wins (3), shutouts (2), GAA (.075), saves (23) and save percentage (.885).
