OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Avian Webb scored 23 points and knocked down four 3-pointers—none bigger than his final make with six seconds remaining—to help No. 3-ranked Johnson County Community College erase a double-digit deficit and outlast No. 6-ranked Iowa Central, 91-88, Saturday afternoon. The victory marked JCCC's second win over a top-10 opponent this week.
The Cavaliers (16-0) trailed by as many as 12 points with 6:30 to play before storming back to tie the game at 82-82 with less than three minutes remaining.
Gavin Harvey drilled a 3-pointer with just under two minutes left to give Johnson County its first lead since early in the opening half, when the Cavaliers led 13-11. Harvey finished with 15 points, seven assists and four steals.
Johnson County fueled its comeback with relentless defensive pressure, forcing 16 steals—nine of them in the second half, most coming during the final six minutes of play.
Offensively, the Cavaliers attacked the Tritons inside, scoring 48 points in the paint. Tavian Cruse narrowly missed a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Trey Fulcher added 15 points and Aidan Wing chipped in 14.
Iowa Central turned in a record-setting shooting performance from beyond the arc. The Tritons went 21-of-45 from 3-point range, setting Johnson County opponent records for both 3-pointers made and attempted in a game.
Jordan Cain led Iowa Central with 30 points, connecting on six 3-pointers. Dorian Pruitt also hit six treys to finish with 20 points, Jalen Wynter added five 3-pointers for 15 points, and Manny Lueth drained four from long range.
The Cavaliers open conference play Wednesday, January 14, at Highland Community College.
