OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 3-ranked Johnson County Community College men's basketball team made history Wednesday night, securing its first undefeated regular season in program history with a 75-70 victory at Allen Community College.
With the win, the Cavaliers improve to 29-0 and join Pima Community College (30-0) as the only NJCAA schools to finish the regular season undefeated. The victory also extends Johnson County's conference winning streak to 31 consecutive games.
Sophomore forward Tavian Cruse and sophomore guard Aidan Wing each recorded a double-double to lead the Cavaliers. Cruse totaled 12 points and 12 rebounds, pushing his career total to a program-record 32 double-doubles. It marked his 17th double-double of the season, tying for the third-most in a single season. Wing flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Freshman guard Avian Webb led all Johnson County scorers with 22 points, shooting an efficient 8-of-11 from the field, including a season-high 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Freshman Bryce Walker also reached double figures with 10 points.
Additional contributions came from sophomore guard Gavin Harvey, who filled the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds and six assists, and sophomore guard Joey Robinson, who added four points, four rebounds and five assists.
Allen was led by Clyde Davis, Jr., who poured in a game-high 23 points.
Now, with history secured and perfection intact, Johnson County shifts its focus to the postseason. The Cavaliers will look to carry their momentum into tournament play next weekend as they begin their pursuit of a championship and aim to cap a remarkable regular season with an even greater finish.
