Cavaliers roll past Fort Scott to lock up conference crown

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 3-ranked Johnson County Community College men's basketball team (27-0/10-0) clinched the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II regular season championship and secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Region 6 Tournament with an 80-63 victory over Fort Scott Community College on Wednesday night.

It marks the Cavaliers' second straight championship, their fourth in the past six years and the 10th overall in program history.

Johnson County took control late in the first half, building an 18-point lead by halftime, and maintained that advantage throughout the second half.

Sophomore guard Aidan Wing got off to a hot start making his first five field goal attempts on his way to a 9-for-13 shooting performance and a game-high 19 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds.

Sophomore forward Tavian Cruse etched his name into the annals of JCCC history by recording his 31st career double-double, setting a new program record. Cruse finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds, matching his second-highest rebounding total of the season. He also established a new career high with five assists.

Sophomore guard Gavin Harvey added 15 points, five assists and four rebounds while freshman forward Bryce Walker hit all five of his shot attempts and finished with 13 points to lead the Cavaliers' bench.  

Freshman Trey Fulcher added nine points and sophomore Joey Robinson finished with eight rebounds and four assists.

Jadyn Hollis led Fort Scott with 19 points, while Noah Parker added 15 points.

Johnson County will host its final regular-season game against Neosho County on Saturday, February 21. Opening tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.
