Second-half surge lifts No. 3 JCCC men past Neosho County, 81-55

OVERLAND PARK, Kan . – The No. 3-ranked Johnson County Community College men's basketball team used a dominant second-half performance to pull away from Neosho County, earning an 81-55 road victory Wednesday night.

The Cavaliers got off to a slow start, trailing by as many as 14 points midway through the first half, allied to climb back into the game and take a three-point lead into halftime.

Johnson County erupted for 46 points in the second half, fueled by a 12-1 run to open the period, and cruised the rest of the way to secure its 21st consecutive victory.

Freshman Avian Webb paced the Cavaliers with a game-high 22 points, shooting 5-of-11 from the field, including four 3-pointers, and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Tavian Cruse recorded his 10th double-double of the season and 25th of his career, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Aidan Wing was ultra-efficient, knocking down 6-of-7 shots, including all three of his 3-point attempts, to score 15 points. Sophomore Gavin Harvey added 13 points, while freshman Trey Fulcher flirted with a double-double, finishing with eight points and nine rebounds.

Cooper Weeks led Neosho County with 13 points, followed by Champ Powaukee with 12 and Jayce Cooper with 10.

Johnson County (21-0) returns home Saturday, Jan. 31, to host Allen Community College at 4 p.m.
