DANVILLE, Ill. - Johnson County Community College used a balanced scoring attack, efficient shooting, and a dominant second half to power past Coastal Alabama–North, 77–59, Wednesday afternoon in the consolation bracket at NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, Ill. The Cavaliers outscored the Eagles 39–27 after halftime and shot an impressive 50 percent from the field for the game.
JCCC set the tone early with strong guard play, as Joey Robinson poured in a team-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including three triples. He added four rebounds and two assists while committing just one turnover. Tavian Cruse gave the Cavaliers an inside presence, finishing with 14 points and six rebounds.
Coastal Alabama–North (1–1) stayed close through the first half behind the hot hand of Elijah Pippins, who scored a game-high 17 points with six assists. But the Eagles struggled to score consistently, shooting just 39 percent from the floor and 24 percent from deep. JCCC's tightening defense after halftime held Coastal to 27 second-half points, allowing the Cavaliers to steadily pull away.
JCCC's depth also proved critical. Bryce Walker delivered a perfect night off the bench, going 5-for-5 from the field and totaling 13 points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes, while Aidan Wing added 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists. The Cavaliers dominated key statistical areas, winning points off turnovers 27–16, second-chance points 10–4, and fast-break points 12–4.
Coastal Alabama–North's interior game struggled against the Cavs' size, though Bryce Wilkins battled to a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Still, the Eagles' offense never found rhythm, committing 17 turnovers and scoring only 14 points in the paint.
Leading 38–32 at halftime, JCCC opened the second half with an 11–2 surge that pushed the margin to double digits—a gap Coastal never seriously threatened. From there, the Cavaliers' steady execution and defensive discipline closed out a convincing victory.
With the victory the Cavaliers advance to face Schoolcraft College in the semifinals of the consolation bracket on Friday, March 20 at 9 a.m.
