OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 3-ranked Johnson County men's basketball controlled the glass, converted free throws down the stretch, and led wire-to-wire in an 87-76 victory at Highland to open conference play. With the victory, JCCC improved to 17-0 on the season.
The Cavaliers placed four players in double figures, led by Trey Fulcher and Gavin Harvey with 20 points apiece, each scoring in different ways. Fulcher shot 6-of-10 from the field and went 8-for-9 at the free-throw line, while also grabbing six rebounds. Harvey connected on 7-of-13 shots, including three 3-pointers, and finished 3-of-4 at the charity stripe while leading the team with five assists.
Johnson County's bench provided a strong lift, as Avian Webb scored 15 points and Bryce Walker added 11. Webb made three field goals—two from beyond the arc—and knocked down 7-of-8 free throws. Walker was efficient, shooting 5-of-7 from the field, including one 3-pointer
The Cavaliers dominated the rebounding battle, outrebounding Highland 43-29. Tavian Cruse pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and added six points, while Joey Robinson collected nine rebounds to go along with eight points and three steals
The Cavaliers also demonstrated an ability to get the free throw line and convert, making 24-of-29 attempts, including 12-of-14 in the final three minutes.
Highland also had four players reach double figures, led by Colton Knoll with 26 points and Tavian Tate with 22.
Johnson County (17-0/1-0) will return home for its conference home opener Saturday, Jan. 17, against Kansas City Kansas. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
